Join us for a day at the only silk museum in the north. Our friendly tour guides demonstrate how cloth was made on the working silk Jacquard handlooms in historic Paradise Mill. The Silk Museum has a collection of industrial machinery, textiles, and an unrivalled archive of pattern books. Discover how silk stood for ambition, creativity and ingenuity.

The Silk Museum is free to enter, but we do kindly ask that you make a donation.

Paradise Mill is available to visit through a guided tour only and we recommend pre-booking this ahead of your visit to avoid any disappointment.

The Silk Museum is located on Park Lane in Macclesfield, Cheshire, on the edge of the Peak District. The museum is a 5-minute walk from Macclesfield train station. There are car parks nearby.

 

Accessibility

The Silk Museum is split over two sites. Paradise Mill is a listed industrial building accessed via three flights of shallow stairs, totalling 49 steps and there is wheelchair access through the lift. The Silk Museum is all on the ground floor and is suitable for prams, wheelchairs, mobility scooters, crutches and Zimmer frame users. A unisex disabled access toilet, with baby changing facilities is available at the Silk Museum. There is a disabled parking bay in the nearby Old Library car park.
